How to get to Râmnicu Vâlcea?

Râmnicu Vâlcea is located in Vâlcea County in western Wallachia, Oltenia region, in southwestern Romania, 180 km / 2.5 hours by car northwest of Bucharest.

By car

Râmnicu Vâlcea has excellent road access. Several national roads pass through the city, one of them is part of the European road:

• DN7 leads on the route Bucureşti – Pitești – Râmnicu Vâlcea – Sibiu – Deva – Arad – Nădlac to Hungary. In the city, it identifies with the E81 European road (which begins in Constanţa, Romania and continues on the route Bucureşti – Piteşti – Râmnicu Vâlcea – Sibiu, but then turns north and continues on the route Sebeş – Alba Iulia – Turda – Cluj-Napoca – Satu Mare – Halmeu to Ukrainian Mukachevo)
• DN64 runs from Caracal in South Romania to Râmnicu Vâlcea
• DN67 leads from Drobeta-Turnu Severin via Târgu Jiu to Râmnicu Vâlcea
• DN73C leads from Câmpulung via Curtea de Argeș to Râmnicu Vâlcea.

By bus

Râmnicu Vâlcea has 2 bus stations:

• Autogara Antares Transport (1 Mai) – located 1 km / 12 minutes walk south of the center; 1 km / 13 minutes walk southwest of the train station and 2 km / 24 minutes walk southwest of the Autogara Dacos bus station.
• Autogara Dacos – 1 km / 12 minutes walk northeast of the railway station; 2 km / 22 minutes walk northeast of the center and 2 km / 24 minutes walk northeast of the Autogara Antares Transport bus station.

Some buses also stop at the county hospital (Spital Județean; 2 km / 25 minutes walk north of the center) and at the former Dacos station (Peco Socar (pe centura) fosta Dacos; 4 km / 6 minutes by car northeast of the center).

By train

The railway station (Gara Râmnicu Vâlcea) is located 1 km / 12 minutes walk east of the center, northeast of the Autogara Antares Transport bus station and southwest of the Autogara Dacos bus station.

The train journey from Craiova (131 km) took 2 hours and 32 minutes and the ticket cost 39.50 lei / 8.17 eur / person.

What to do, see and visit in Râmnicu Vâlcea?

In Râmnicu Vâlcea you can visit the Vâlcea County Museum (Muzeul Judeţean Vâlcea), which exhibits its collections for visitors in several buildings throughout the county.

Vâlcea County History Museum (Muzeul de Istorie a Judeţului Vâlcea; 400 m / 6 minutes walk north of the center) focuses on the history of the county from prehistory to the beginning of the 20th century.

Simian House Art Museum (Muzeul de Artă Casa Simian; 450 m / 7 minutes walk northeast of the center) – exhibits works by Romanian authors of 19th – 21st century and regional sacral art of 16th – 19th century.

Vâlcea County Village Museum (Muzeul Satului Vâlcean; 4.5 km / 7 minutes by car north of the city) is located in the village of Bujoreni. In the open-air museum you will find everything a real village should have: houses, a church, a school, an inn, craft workshops and technical facilities in the region.

Anton Pann Memorial House (Casa Memorială „Anton Pann”) is 250 m / 3 minutes walk west of the center). Anton Pann was a composer and Romanian poet who composed music for the contemporary Romanian anthem. It was first heard in this city in the revolutionary year of 1848.

Where to stay in Râmnicu Vâlcea?

Vila Victoria is located 1.2 km / 16 minutes walk north of the center; 1.7 km / 23 minutes walk west of the Autogara Dacos bus station; 2.1 km / 27 minutes walk northwest of the train station and 2.1 km / 28 minutes walk north of the Autogara Antares Transport bus station.

Vila Victoria owners live direct in the guest house. They are an elderly couple who do not speak English, but are very nice and helpful. They accommodated us in a spacious and very nicely furnished twin room with a private bathroom with shower and balcony. It was interesting that you did not get to the balcony from the room, but from the bathroom. There is no need to book a free private parking space nearby. Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the property.

We paid 159 lei / 32.88 eur for accommodation. The price included a room, 5% value added tax, 1% city tax and breakfast for 2 people. At the guest house you can pay by credit card in local currency.

By the time they served breakfast, we had been on the way to the bus station. It hadn’t occured to me to make arrangement with the hosts a day before. I assumed it would be served from 7.00 am as in most accommodation facilities.

Also, our departure from the guest house was slightly chaotic. Since there was no one at the reception, we had to leave the keys and hurry to the bus.

Vila Victoria is rated (in terms of accommodation facilities) as the 2nd best accommodation in Oltenia and the 3rd best during our last visit to Romania.

Where to eat in Râmnicu Vâlcea?

Ristorante D’amici (300 m / 4 minutes walk east of the center) is a pleasant family restaurant almost in the city center. I did not taste any Romanian specialty in the restaurant. I had an outrageous taste for tuna pizza, which I finally ordered. The rich pizza with crunchy edges was very tasty. Fast and English speaking service. They had a wide selection of wines in the restaurant, so I was sorry we didn’t order a bottle of wine for dinner. The draught beer won again! We paid 74 lei / 15.30 eur for dinner for 2 people.

As I mentioned above, more than the city itself, I am attracted by its surroundings. Less than 40 km west is the UNESCO site of the Horezu Monastery or the so-called residential towers from the period of the Turkish invasions in the village of Măldărești. Maybe next time.

In Romania, it is probably also allowed to park on the sidewalks (similar to Slovakia). However, here in Slovakia we should park the car so that there is a distance of 1.5 m, or 2 people can walk side by side on the sidewalk respectively. This is probably not the case in Romania, because everyone parks there as they come. And since you are in a big city where there are a lot of people who have a lot of cars and space is scarce, you can park wherever you can.

How to get to Craiova?

Craiova is located in Dolj County, in western Wallachia, in Oltenia, in southwestern Romania, 233 km / 3 hours and 3 minutes by car west of Bucharest.

By car

Craiova has very good transport accessibility. A Class european roads (E70, E79), B Class european road (E574) and several national roads (DN55, DN6B and DN65C) pass through the city:

• A Class european roads:
  • E70 – leads from Georgia to Spain. In Romania, it passes through Bucharest – Craiova – Drobeta-Turnu Severin – Timișoara – Cenad. In the city, it coincides with the national road DN6.
  • E79 – leads from Hungary to Greece. In Romania, it passes through Oradea – Deva – Târgu Jiu – Craiova – Calafat. It passes through the city as a national road DN56.
• B Class european road:
  • E574 – which starts in Bacău, passes through Brașov, Pitești and ends in Craiova. In the city it is the national road DN65.
• National roads:
  • DN55 – Craiova – Bechet.
  • DN6B – Craiova – Melinești – Hurezani.
  • DN65C – Craiova – Bălcești – Horezu.

By bus

If you are traveling to the city by bus, you can get off at one of the following stops:

• Autogara Craiova Nord (Pelendava SA) – 2.5 km / 30 minutes walk northeast of the center (at the train station)
• Autogara A. C. O. T. P. Dolj (Bacriz) – 2.5 km / 35 minutes walk northeast of the center (near the train station)
• Metro – 7 km / 14 minutes by car east of the center (at the airport)

By train

The railway station (Gara Craiova) is 2.3 km / 31 minutes walk northeast of the center. The journey from Drobeta-Turnu Severin took 2 hours 9 minutes and the ticket cost 34.70 lei / 7.18 eur / person.

By plane

Craiova International Airport (Aeroportul Internațional Craiova) is located 7 km / 11 minutes by car east of the center. From the airport, you can currently (April 2020) fly to 11 destinations in 8 countries in Europe and the Middle East.

What to do, see and visit in Craiova?

There are three museums in the city, each exhibiting different collections, an art museum and several historic buildings that currently serve as offices or a university.

Oltenia Museum – Section of History and Archaeology

Oltenia Museum – Section of History and Archaeology (Muzeul Olteniei – secția de Istorie și Arheologie; 500 m / 6 minutes walk west of the center) exhibits, as the name suggests, historical, archaeological and numismatic collections from prehistory to the present. The museum is a kind of small maze, but don’t worry. Although you see the exhibition yourself, you will always have a museum lecturer on your heels, who is ready to answer any questions, will guide you, turns on and turns off the lights. Interestingly conceived exhibition. The ticket price also included a short-term exhibition dedicated to socialist toys. Set aside about 1.5-2 hours for the museum tour. The ticket cost 5 lei / 1.03 eur / person.

Oltenia Museum – Section of Natural Sciences

Oltenia Museum – Section of Natural Sciences (Muzeul Olteniei – secția de Științele Naturii; 180 m / 2 minutes walk west of the center) hides in its premises paleontological, mineralogical, botanical, malacological (mollusc science), entomological (insect science), ichthyological (fish science), herpetological (reptile and amphibian science), ornithological (bird science) and teriological (mammal science) collections. On the second floor there is a planetarium and an exhibition dedicated to space and the solar system. We went through the exhibition ourselves. Set aside about one hour for the museum tour. The ticket cost 5 lei / 1.03 eur / person.

Oltenia Museum – Section of Ethnography

Oltenia Museum – Section of Ethnography (Casa Băniei – Muzeul Olteniei – secția de Etnografie; 550 m / 6 minutes walk southwest of the center) is located in the so-called Băniei House a few meters south of the historical museum. The house is the oldest secular building in the city. It was established at the end of the 15th century. In the museum we can find handicrafts and objects of folk art made of clay, wood, metal and other materials. The basement is occupied by an exhibition focused on the production of bread. Upstairs, the museum exhibits rugs, woven products and religious objects, including icons. The museum was again a maze in which we were guided by a lecturer. The ticket cost 5 lei / 1.03 eur / person.

Museum of Art

In Craiova you can also visit the Art Museum Craiova (Muzeul de Artă din Craiova; 260 m / 3 minutes walk north of the center; 10 lei / 2.07 eur / person), which exhibits, among other things, six works by Constantine Brâncuși, I have already written about in the article Târgu Jiu – the city jungle of Oltenia. By the way, Constantine studied at a local art school.

Significant buildings and sculptures of Craiova

There are several squares in the city center and its wider surroundings. In the article, I focused on Michael the Brave’s Square (Piața Mihai Viteazul), I also calculated distances from.

The eastern side of the square is bordered by the building of Dolj County Prefecture (Instituția Prefectului Județului Dolj), which is a symbol of the city of Craiova.

Right on the square is the equestrian statue of Michael the Brave (Statuia lui Mihai Viteazul). Michael the Brave (1558-1601) was the first Romanian prince who united three principalities – Wallachia, Transylvania and Moldova into one unit. He is a national hero for Romanians. He won 4th place in the 100 greatest Romanians TV show.

Just a few meters west from statue of Michael the Brave is a statue of another Romanian prince named Barbu Dimitrie Ştirbei. Barbu was a prince twice, first in the years 1848-1853 and later in the years 1854-1856.

In the western part of the square there is Romanian Opera House (Opera Română Craiova). In front of it is a roundabout, in the middle of which is a third statue, a statue of Charles I (Statuia lui Carol I). Charles I was King of Romania from 1866-1914. He won a silver medal in the TV show of 100 greatest Romanians.

On the way from the center to the station you will walk around the university (Universitatea din Craiova; 500 m / 6 minutes walk east of the center) from the end of the 19th century, which originally served as a courthouse.

Where to stay in Craiova?

In the city we stayed in a cozy Romanian Pensiunea Luisa guest house (1 km / 13 minutes walk southeast of the center and 2.6 km / 35 minutes walk southwest of the train and bus station), located on the outskirts of the center.

The receptionist spoke only Romanian, but she was very willing to explain everything to us. She accommodated us in a double Business Room with a small window overlooking the wall of the opposite building with a private bathroom with shower. As I looked for the plug, I noticed a clump of dust under the bed. Therefore, I preferred not to look at the mattress. A buffet breakfast is served in the restaurant, which is adjacent to the guest house and is interconnected. Free (but very weak) Wi-Fi internet connection was in the whole object. It is not necessary to book a free private parking space, which is available on site.

I’m sorry I didn’t take a photo of the stairs and the corridor at the guest house. If you’ve ever read Dracula by Bram Stoker, this is exactly how I imagined the hotel in Bistrița, where Jonathan Harker stayed on his way to Dracula’s castle.

For one double room for two people for one night we paid 120 lei / 24.82 eur. The price included room, 5% value added tax, 1% city tax and breakfast. In the guest house we paid by credit card in local currency.

Where to eat in Craiova?

We ate in the city in two Italian restaurants – Restaurant Il Forno and Pizzeria Trevi, and between museum tours we had a coffee break in a patisserie. A visit of the confectionery was nothing special and therefore I am not writing about it.

Restaurant Il Forno

Restaurant Il Forno (750 m / 10 minutes walk east of the center) is a pleasant looking modern restaurant in the city center. I tasted Chicken rolls with spinach and feta cheese and roasted potatoes (chicken breast, spinach, feta cheese, cream, garlic, pepper), which were delicious. English speaking staff. After lunch, I recommend you a delicious Italian espresso. We paid 86 lei / 17.79 eur for lunch for 2 people.

Pizzeria Trevi

Pizzeria Trevi (1 km / 13 minutes walk east of the center) is a truly Italian restaurant. A cozy restaurant that uses every square meter of its area. There were tables with checkered tablecloths, serving tables, Italian-speaking staff and, of course, an Italian menu. I tasted Partenopea pasta. It is a pasta with onion-based tomato sauce with tuna and olives. The taste is enhanced by capers and the portion is covered with grated Parmesan cheese. The pasta was very tasty and rich. We paid 100 lei / 20.69 eur for dinner for 2 people.

After visiting the city of Craiova, I am probably most sorry that we did not have time to visit the Art museum. I would have also liked to walk through the large park, which is situated south of the center. Instead, the cold February weather „drove us“ to heated museums and restaurants.

In Drobeta we were supposed to have the warmest weather from our entire holiday. There should have been an incredible 15! degrees. Actually, there was those 15 degrees, but there was such an incredible wind blowing in the city that we didn’t enjoy the „warm“ weather so much.

How to get to Drobeta-Turnu Severin?

Drobeta-Turnu Severin is located in western Wallachia, Oltenia region, in southwestern Romania, administratively in Mehedinți County.

By car

Severin lies at the crossroads of national roads DN6 and DN67. The national road DN6, which is also part of the European road E70, leads on the route Bucharest – Craiova – Drobeta-Turnu Severin – Timișoara. The DN67 national road leads from Drobeta-Turnu Severin via Târgu Jiu to Râmnicu Vâlcea.

By bus

If you travel to Drobeta by bus, you can get off at the bus station, or one of the following stops:

• Main bus station (Autogara Transport Public Urban Drobeta SA) – 2 km / 23 minutes walk east of the city center and 3 km / 38 minutes walk northeast of the railway station.
• Agentia ,,Drobeta,,Dr. Tr. Sev. – at the main bus station,
• Parcare Interex – at the main bus station,
• Generala nr. 2 (also known as B-dul Tudor Vladimirescu) – 2 km / 25 minutes walk west of the bus station and 280 m / 4 minutes walk north of the Water Tower, ie closest to the center.

The bus journey from Târgu Jiu took 2 hours 15 minutes and the ticket cost 24 lei / 4.96 eur / person.

By train

The railway station (Gara Drobeta-Turnu Severin) is located 1.2 km / 15 minutes walk southwest of the city center.

Where to get information in Drobeta-Turnu Severin?

The Tourist Information Center is just a few steps walking north of the medieval fortress of Severin.

What to do, see and visit in Drobeta-Turnu Severin?

Severin‚s primary offer is somewhat richer, perhaps more attractive than in other cities in western Wallachia. In the city you will find the Iron Gates Region Museum, the Medieval Fortress of Severin and the Water Tower.

Iron Gates Region Museum

Iron Gates Region Museum (Muzeul Regiunii Porților de Fier) exhibits its collections in several buildings – the Multifunctional Pavilion, the Archaeological Park and the Turbine Museum in Gura Văii.

Multifunctional pavilion

The Multifunctional Pavilion (Pavilionul Multifuncțional – Muzeul Regiunii Porților De Fier; 1.3 km / 16 minutes walk east of the center) is the main building of the museum. A book guide attracted us to the aquarium with fish from the Danube in addition to historical, archaeological or ethnographic collections. In the end, we didn’t see any of it. The museum is currently closed due to reconstruction and offers only 4 short-term exhibitions:

• traditional housing in the Mehedinți region – a selection from ethnographic collections
• paintings „Dumitru Ghiață“ – a selection of 46 paintings from the collections of the Museum of Art,
• Roman cuisine – a selection of historical and archaeological collections,
• stuffed birds – a selection of natural science collections.

Admission is 4 lei / 0.83 eur / person.

Archaeological park

The Archaeological Park (Parcul Arheologic – Muzeul Regiunii Porților De Fier) is located directly at the Multifunctional Pavilion. The remains of a Roman camp, Traian’s Bridge, a Roman amphitheater, a Roman bath and a medieval church were found in the park.

The fortress was the first Roman camp in the territory of Dacia and served to defend the Traian’s Bridge. Apollodorus of Damascus had built a bridge over the Danube on the orders of Emperor Traian as early as 102-105 AD. It was the largest bridge in antiquity, connecting two Roman provinces – Dacia (north of the Danube) and Moesia (south of the Danube). Two basic foothills have been preserved from the bridge, one on the Romanian side and one on the Serbian side.

The rest of the Traian’s bridge is forever buried at the bottom of the Danube, which rose in these places by 8-10 m after the construction of a hydroelectric power plant. The bridge is even depicted on Traian’s Column in Rome. The amphitheater was used to train Roman legionaries. After training, they could recover in a nearby spa. You walk through the park yourself. There are information boards in Romanian and English throughout the complex. Admission is 10 lei / 2.07 eur / person.

Turbine Museum in Gura Văii

The Turbine Museum in Gura Văii (Muzeul Turbinelor de la Gura Văii; 12 km / 14 minutes by car northwest of the city center) is located in the Iron Gates hydroelectric power plant in the village of Gura Văii, managed by Drobeta. In addition to the permanent historical and archaeological exposition, it also offers visitors temporary exhibitions from ethnographic, natural history collections and a turbine hall. Thanks to the absent bus from Târgu Jiu and reviews on the Internet, we finally missed the tour of the museum and preferred the attractions in the city. Admission is 10 lei / 2.07 eur / person.

Sailing in these places on the Danube was still dangerous. The river wound through the gorge between the rocks and, in addition, swirls formed in it. In the second half of the 20th century, Romania agreed with Yugoslavia (now Serbia) to build a hydroelectric power plant. It was established in the years 1960-1972 and is the largest dam power plant on the Danube and one of the largest in Europe. Its construction caused the river level to rise by 33 m, flooding 10 places on the Romanian and 7 places on the Serbian bank, including the historic part of Orșova and the Turkish island of Ada Kaleh.

The medieval fortress of Severin

The medieval fortress of Severin (Cetatea Medievală a Severinului; 650 m / 8 minutes walk south of the center) is probably the first stone fortress in Romania. The fortress was built by the king Ladislaus I of Hungary at the end of the 11th century for defense in case of attacks by Kumani and Pechenegs. It later protected from the Turkish invasion. After conquering the fortress, the Turks ordered its demolition. At present, you can walk along its walls for free.

Water Tower

The Water Tower (Castelul de Apă; 350 m / 5 minutes walk north of the center) was built in 1910. Its main function was to supply the city of Severin with water. It was inaugurated four years later and served its mission until 1980. During World War I it served as an observatory for German soldiers. The tower is 27 m high.

From the tower there is a view of the regular network of city streets, the Danube and the opposite Serbia. There is a different short-term exhibition on each floor of the tower. On the top floor it was an exhibition of historical photographs of old Drobeta, on other floors an exhibition dedicated to the Serbian town of Negotin and works of art school students. On the ground floor there is a souvenir shop and there was an exhibition of photographs of regional churches and monasteries. Admission is 10 lei / 2.07 eur / person.

Where to stay in Drobeta-Turnu Severin?

Mon Cheri guest house is located 900 m / 11 minutes walk northwest of the city center; 1.3 km / 17 minutes walk north of the train station and 2.2 km / 30 minutes walk west of the bus station.

We stayed in a double room with a balcony and a view of the main road with a private bathroom with shower. The room was furnished with older furniture, but I guess I slept here on the best mattress in the whole of Oltenia. The room smelled of cigarettes a bit, but we have become accustomed in Romania. Good English-speaking receptionist, but only Romanian-speaking waitress. Breakfast is also served at the guest house. It is not included in the price of accommodation. The waitress, who was probably also a cook, prepared a tasty omelette for us.

For one double room for 1 night for 2 people we paid 130 lei / 26.88 eur. The price includes room, 5% value added tax, 1% city tax. You can pay at the guest house by card. The price does not include breakfast. For breakfast for 2 people we paid 29 ron / 6 eur. It is not necessary to book a space in the free public car park, which is available on site. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the guest house.

Where to eat in Drobeta-Turnu Severin?

We tried 2 restaurants and one café in the city.

Restaurant & Lounge 16,50

Restaurant & Lounge 16.50 (400 m / 5 minutes walk west of the center) is a luxurious-looking restaurant almost in the city center. We were probably the first guests to come to dinner that day. In some rooms it was not even lit. It was in one, but waiters were sitting and smoking there (again the cigarette smoke). The smoke was perceived a bit in the room where we were eating. We didn’t let ourselves be discouraged, even though I thought we’d get up and go somewhere else. In the end, it was the restaurant where we ate the best. Again, only Romanian-speaking staff. I tasted the specialty of the house, Chicken wok (chicken breast, pepper, eggplant, pumpkin, garlic, sweet chili sauce, basmati rice).

We also tasted dessert. We were very pleased to see the traditional Romanian dessert Papanași (something like Slovak doughnuts) in the menu, which is usually served here with sweet cream and blueberries. After dinner we went for a walk along the Danube embankment. Unfortunately, the waterfront is not arranged in the same way as in other cities in Romania. But the city and its sights are illuminated nicely at night. We paid 150 lei / 31.02 eur for dinner for 2 people.

Rustic Restaurant

The restaurant where we wanted to eat lunch the next day was closed. We therefore went to the nearest restaurant (Rustic; 260 m / 3 minutes walk southwest of the center) in the area. Based on personal experience, I can conclude that the restaurant is true to its name. After entering, I felt like I had moved back in time a few decades. Large unwashed windows (those windows were probably washed, only the glass could be so old that it was not really visible through it), everywhere full of large green dusty plants, long wooden tables, quasi-wooden roofs with folk motifs above the tables, older, only Romanian speaking lady waitress and lunch price for 2 people lower than for two coffees elsewhere in the city.

We tasted the daily menu: vegetable soup and broth (it was the same vegetable soup, they just put sliced chicken in it). The main course was a slice of pork and a slice of chicken. The oil on which the meat was prepared, I guess, remembered the socialist era. We could choose potatoes in any way as a side dish. I’m glad waitress picked fries for us. Of course, dessert can’t be missed after the main course. This was followed by popular pancakes. I probably wouldn’t go back to the restaurant for the food, but for the experience, or perhaps even better the feeling. We paid 40 lei / 8.27 eur for lunch for 2 people.

Ada Kaleh Café

The Turkish Ada Kaleh café is located right in the city center. We ordered an original Turkish coffee (not poured, but prepared in cezve and sand!) with baklava. I was a little sorry that if it hadn’t been for the unique environment, I would get the feeling that I was just in any other café in Romania. We paid 42 lei / 8.69 eur for a bill for 2 people.

I can’t say that Drobeta-Turnu Severin did not meet my expectations. It is possible I probably just had idealized the city just before I arrived. I am convinced that during the summer, when it is nice, the city has a completely different atmosphere. I don’t want to exaggerate, maybe it would have remind me of a seaside, but there might definitely be terraces everywhere and full of people and warm and fragrant. But I’m idealizing it again.

Ako sa do Râmnicu Vâlcea dostať?

Râmnicu Vâlcea sa nachádza v župe Vâlcea v západnom Valaššku, regióne Olténia, v juhozápadnom Rumunsku, 180 km/2,5 h autom severozápadne od Bukurešti.

Autom

Râmnicu Vâlcea má vynikajúcu dopravnú dostupnosť. Mestom prechádzajú viaceré národné cesty, z ktorých jedna je súčasťou európskej cesty:

• DN7 vedie na trase Bucureşti – Pitești – Râmnicu Vâlcea – Sibiu – Deva – Arad – Nădlac až do Maďarska. V meste sa stotožňuje s európskou cestou E81, (ktorá začína v rumunskej Constanţa a pokračuje na trase Bucureşti – Piteşti – Râmnicu Vâlcea – Sibiu, ale potom sa stáča na sever a pokračuje na trase Sebeş – Alba Iulia – Turda – Cluj-Napoca – Satu Mare – Halmeu až do ukrajinského Mukačeva)
• DN64 vedie z juhorumunského Caracal do Râmnicu Vâlcea
• DN67 vedie z Drobeta-Turnu Severin cez Târgu Jiu do Râmnicu Vâlcea
• DN73C vedie z Câmpulung cez Curtea de Argeș do Râmnicu Vâlcea.

Autobusom

Râmnicu Vâlcea má 2 autobusové stanice:

• Autogara Antares Transport (1 Mai) – sa nachádza 1 km/12 min. pešo južne od centra; 1 km/13 min. pešo juhozápadne od železničnej stanice a 2 km/24 min. pešo juhozápadne od autobusovej stanice Autogara Dacos.
• Autogara Dacos – 1 km/12 min. pešo severovýchodne od železničnej stanice; 2 km/22 min. pešo severovýchodne od centra a 2 km/24 min. pešo severovýchodne od autobusovej stanice Autogara Antares Transport.

Niektoré autobusy tiež stoja pri župnej nemocnici (Spital Județean; 2 km/25 min. pešo severne od centra) a na bývalej stanici Dacos (Peco Socar (pe centura) fosta Dacos; 4 km/6 min. autom severovýchodne od centra).

Vlakom

Železničnú stanicu (Gara Râmnicu Vâlcea) nájdete 1 km/12 min. pešo východne od centra, severovýchodne od autobusovej stanice Autogara Antares Transport a juhozápadne od autobusovej stanice Autogara Dacos.

Cesta vlakom z Craiova (131 km) trvala 2 h a 32 min. a cestovný lístok stál 39,50 lei/8,17 eur/os.

Čo v Râmnicu Vâlcea robiť, vidieť a navštíviť?

V Râmnicu Vâlcea môžete navštíviť Múzeum župy Vâlcea (Muzeul Judeţean Vâlcea), ktoré svoje zbierky vystavuje pre návštevníkov vo viacerých budovách v celej župe.

Múzeum histórie župy Vâlcea (Muzeul de Istorie a Judeţului Vâlcea; 400 m/6 min. pešo severne od centra) sa zameriava na históriu župy od praveku po začiatok 20. storočia.

Múzeum umenia dom Simian (Muzeul de Artă Casa Simian; 450 m/7 min. pešo severovýchodne od centra) – vystavuje diela rumunských autorov 19.-21. storočia a regionálne sakrálne umenie 16.-19. storočia.

Múzeum dediny župy Vâlcea (Muzeul Satului Vâlcean; 4,5 km/7 min. autom severne od mesta) sa nachádza v dedinke Bujoreni. V skanzene nájdete všetko, čo by mala skutočná dedina mať: domy, kostol, školu, hostinec, remeselnícke dielne či technické zariadenia regiónu.

Pamätný dom Anton Pann (Casa Memorială „Anton Pann”) nájdete 250 m/3 min. pešo západne od centra). Anton Pann bol hudobný skladateľ a rumunský básnik, ktorý zložil hudbu pre súčasnú rumunskú hymnu. Tá zaznela prvýkrát práve v tomto meste v revolučnom roku 1848. 

Kde sa v Râmnicu Vâlcea ubytovať?

Vila Victoria sa nachádza 1,2 km/16 min. pešo severne od centra; 1,7 km/23 min. pešo západne od autobusovej stanice Autogara Dacos; 2,1 km/27 min. pešo severozápadne od železničnej stanice a 2,1 km/28 min. pešo severne od autobusovej stanice Autogara Antares Transport.

V penzióne bývajú aj jeho majitelia, starší manželský pár, ktorí nehovoria po anglicky, ale sú veľmi milí a nápomocní. Ubytovali nás v priestrannej a veľmi pekne zariadenej 2-lôžkovej izbe so súkromnou kúpeľňou so sprchovacím kútom a balkónom. Bolo zaujímavé, že na balkón ste sa nedostali z izby, ale z kúpeľne. Nie je potrebné rezervovať si miesto na bezplatnom súkromnom parkovisku, ktoré je k dispozícii v blízkosti. Bezplatné Wi-Fi pripojenie na internet je k dispozícii v celom objekte.

Za ubytovanie sme zaplatili 159 lei/32,88 eur. V penzióne môžete platiť platobnou kartou v miestnej mene. Cena zahŕňala izbu, 5 % daň z pridanej hodnoty, 1 % mestskú daň a raňajky pre 2 osoby.

Raňajky sme ale nestihli, pretože ich servírujú až od 8.00 h a to už sme boli na ceste na autobusovú stanicu. Nenapadlo mi zistiť si, odkedy servírujú raňajky a dohodnúť sa s domácimi. Predpokladal som, že ich budú podávať od 7.00 h ako vo väčšine ubytovacích zariadení.

Taktiež náš odchod z penziónu bol mierne chaotický. Keďže na recepcii nikto nebol, jediné, čo nám ostávalo, bolo nechať kľúče a ponáhľať sa na autobus.

Penzión Vila Victoria hodnotím (čo sa vybavenia týka) ako 2. najlepšie ubytovanie v Olténii a 3. najlepšie počas našej poslednej návštevy Rumunska.

Kde sa v Râmnicu Vâlcea najesť?

Ristorante D’amici (300 m/4 min. pešo východne od centra) je príjemnou rodinnou reštauráciou takmer v centre mesta. V reštaurácii som neochutnal žiadnu rumunskú špecialitu. Mal som nehoráznu chuť na tuniakovu pizzu, ktorú som si teda nakoniec aj objednal. Pizza s bohatým obložením a chrumkavými okrajmi bola veľmi chutná. Rýchla a anglicky hovoriaca obsluha. V reštaurácii mali širokú ponuku vín, až mi je ľúto, že sme si ku večeri neobjednali fľašu vína. Opäť zvíťazilo čapované pivo! Za večeru pre 2 osoby sme zaplatili 74 lei/15,30 eur.

Ako som už vyššie spomenul, viac ako samotné mesto ma láka jeho okolie. Necelých 40 km západne sa napr. nachádza UNESCO lokalita kláštor Horezu alebo tzv. obytné veže z obdobia tureckých nájazdov v dedine Măldărești. Možno nabudúce.

V Rumunsku je asi tiež dovolené parkovať na chodníkoch (podobne ako u nás). U nás by však tuším malo auto parkovať tak, aby ostal odstup 1,5 m, resp. vedľa seba prešli po chodníku 2 osoby. V Rumunsku to asi tak nie je, pretože tam každý parkuje ako príde. No a keďže ste vo veľkom meste, kde žije veľa obyvateľov, ktorí majú veľa áut a miesta je málo, parkuje sa všade, kde sa len dá.

Ako sa do mesta Craiova dostať?

Craiova sa nachádza v župe Dolj, v západnom Valašsku, v Olténii, v juhozápadnom Rumunsku, 233 km/3 h a 3 min. autom západne od Bukurešti.

Autom

Craiova má veľmi dobrú dopravnú dostupnosť. Mestom prechádzajú európske cesty triedy A (E70, E79) a B (E574) a viaceré národné cesty (DN55, DN6B a DN65C):

• Európske cesty triedy A:
  • E70 – vedie z Gruzínska do Španielska. V Rumunsku prechádza cez Bukurešť – Craiova – Drobeta-Turnu Severin – Timișoara – Cenad. Na území mesta sa stotožňuje s národnou cestou DN6. 
  • E79 – vedie z Maďarska do Grécka. V Rumunsku prechádza cez Oradea – Deva – Târgu Jiu – Craiova – Calafat. Mestom prechádza ako národná cesta DN56.  
• Európska cesta triedy B:
  • E574 – ktorá začína v Bacău, prechádza cez Brașov, Pitești a končí v Craiova. V meste je to národná cesta DN65.
• Národné cesty:
  • DN55 – Craiova – Bechet.
  • DN6B – Craiova – Melinești – Hurezani.
  • DN65C – Craiova – Bălcești – Horezu.

Autobusom

V prípade, že budete cestovať do mesta autobusom, vystúpiť môžete na niektorej z nasledujúcich zastávok:

• Autogara Craiova Nord (Pelendava SA) – 2,5 km/30 min. pešo severovýchodne od centra (pri železničnej stanici)
• Autogara A. C. O. T. P. Dolj (Bacriz) – 2,5 km/35 min. severovýchodne od centra (neďaleko železničnej stanice)
• Metro – 7 km/14 min. autom východne od centra (pri letisku)

Vlakom

Železničnú stanicu (Gara Craiova) nájdete 2,3 km/31 min. pešo severovýchodne od centra. Cesta z Drobeta-Turnu Severin trvala 2 h 9 min. a cestovný lístok stál 34,70 lei/7,18 eur/os.

Lietadlom

Medzinárodné letisko Craiova (Aeroportul Internațional Craiova) sa nachádza 7 km/11 min. autom východne od centra. Z letiska momentálne (apríl 2020) doletíte do 11 cieľových miest v 8 krajinách Európy a Blízkeho východu. 

Čo v meste Craiova robiť, vidieť a navštíviť?

V meste nájdete tri múzeá, pričom každé z nich vystavuje iné zbierky, múzeum umenia a niekoľko historických budov, ktoré momentálne slúžia ako úrady alebo univerzita.

Múzeum Olténie – oddelenie histórie a archeológie

Múzeum Olténie – oddelenie histórie a archeológie (Muzeul Olteniei – secția de Istorie și Arheologie; 500 m/6 min. pešo západne od centra) vystavuje, ako už názov napovedá historické, archeologické a numizmatické zbierky od praveku po súčasnosť. Múzeum je akýmsi menším bludiskom, ale nebojte sa. Síce si expozíciu pozeráte sami, v pätách budete mať neustále lektorku múzea, pripravenú zodpovedať akékoľvek otázky, ktorá vás bude navigovať, rozsvecovať a zhasínať svetlá. Zaujímavo poňatá expozícia. V cene vstupenky sme navštívili aj krátkodobú výstavu venovanú socialistickým hračkám. Na prehliadku múzea si vyčleňte asi 1,5-2 h. Vstupenka stála 5 lei/1,03 eur/os.

Múzeum Olténie – oddelenie prírodných vied

Múzeum Olténie – oddelenie prírodných vied (Muzeul Olteniei – secția de Științele Naturii; 180 m/2 min. pešo západne od centra) vo svojich priestoroch ukrýva paleontologické, mineralogické, botanické, malakologické (náuka o mäkkýšoch), entomologické (náuka o hmyze), ichtyologické (náuka o rybách), herpetologické (náuka o plazoch a obojživelníkoch), ornitologické (náuka o vtákoch) a teriologické (náuka o cicavcoch) zbierky. Ale toho je! Na druhom poschodí sa nachádza planetárium a expozícia venovaná vesmíru a slnečnej sústave. Expozíciu sme si prechádzali sami. Na prehliadku múzea si vyčleňte asi jednu hodinu. Vstupenka stála 5 lei/1,03 eur/os.

Múzeum Olténie – oddelenie etnografie

Múzeum Olténie – oddelenie etnografie (Casa Băniei – Muzeul Olteniei – secția de Etnografie; 550 m/6 min. pešo juhozápadne od centra) sídli v tzv. dome Băniei pár metrov južne od historického múzea. Dom je najstaršou svetskou stavbou v meste. Vznikol už na konci 15. storočia. V múzeu nájdeme remeselné predmety a predmety ľudového umenia z hliny, dreva, kovu a iných materiálov. Suterén zaberá expozícia zameraná na výrobu chleba. Na poschodí múzeum vystavuje koberce, tkané výrobky a náboženské predmety, vrátane ikon. Múzeum bolo opäť bludiskom, v ktorom nás prenasledovala lektorka. Vstupenka stála 5 lei/1,03 eur/os.

Múzeum umenia

V Craiove ďalej môžete navštíviť Múzeum umenia (Muzeul de Artă din Craiova; 260 m/3 min. pešo severne od centra; 10 lei/2,07 eur/os.), ktoré okrem iných vystavuje šesť diel Constantina Brâncușiho, o ktorom som už písal v článku Târgu Jiu – mestská džungľa Olténie. Constantin mimochodom študoval na miestnej umeleckej škole.

Významné budovy a súsošia mesta Craiova

V centre mesta a jeho širšom okolí nájdete viaceré námestia. V článku som sa zameral na Námestie Michala Chrabrého (Piața Mihai Viteazul), z ktorého som tiež počítal vzdialenosti.

Východnú stranu námestia ohraničuje budova prefektúry župy Dolj (Instituția Prefectului Județului Dolj), ktorá je akýmsi symbolom mesta Craiova.

Priamo na námestí sa nachádza jazdecká socha Michala Chrabrého (Statuia lui Mihai Viteazul). Michal Chrabrý (1558-1601) bol prvým rumunským kniežaťom, ktorý zjednotil tri kniežatstvá – Valašsko, Transylvániu a Moldavsko do jedného celku. Pre Rumunov je národným hrdinom. V televíznej súťaži 100 najväčších Rumunov získal 4. miesto.

Len pár metrov západne od Michala Chrabrého sa nachádza socha ďalšieho rumunského kniežaťa, ktorý sa volal Barbu Dimitrie Ştirbei. Barbu bol kniežaťom hneď dvakrát, najprv v rokoch 1848-1853 a neskôr v rokoch 1854-1856.

Západnú časť zástavby námestia predstavuje rumunská opera (Opera Română Craiova). Pred ňou je kruhový objazd, v strede ktorého sa nachádza tretia socha, tentoraz socha Karola I. (Statuia lui Carol I). Karol I. bol rumunským kráľom v rokoch 1866-1914. V televíznej šou 100 najväčších Rumunov získal striebornú medailu.

Po ceste z centra na stanicu, resp. naopak, budete prechádzať okolo univerzity (Universitatea din Craiova; 500 m/6 min. pešo východne od centra) z konca 19. storočia, ktorá pôvodne slúžila ako budova súdu.

Kde sa v meste Craiova ubytovať?

V meste sme sa ubytovali v útulnom rumunskom penzióne Pensiunea Luisa (1 km/13 min. pešo juhovýchodne od centra a 2,6 km/35 min. pešo juhozápadne od železničnej a autobusovej stanice), ktorý sa nachádza na okraji centra.

Pani na recepcii hovorila len po rumunsky, ale bola veľmi ochotná nám všetko vysvetliť. Ubytovala nás v 2-lôžkovej izbe Business s malým oknom s výhľadom na stenu protiľahlej budovy so súkromnou kúpeľňou so sprchovacím kútom. Keď som hľadal zástrčku, pod posteľou som si všimol chumáče prachu. Na matrac som sa preto radšej nepozeral. Raňajky formou bufetu servírovali v reštaurácii, ktorá susedí s penziónom a s ktorým sú vzájomne prepojené. Bezplatné (ale veľmi slabé) Wi-Fi pripojenie na internet bolo v celom penzióne. Nie je potrebné rezervovať si miesto na bezplatnom súkromnom parkovisku, ktoré je k dispozícii na mieste.

Ľutujem, že som neodfotil schodisko a chodbu v penzióne. Ak ste niekedy čítali Draculu od Brama Stokera, presne takto nejako som si predstavoval hotel v Bistriți, v ktorom sa Jonathan Harker ubytoval na svojej ceste za grófom.

Za jednu dvojlôžkovú izbu pre dve osoby na jednu noc sme zaplatili 120 lei/24,82 eur. Cena zahŕňala izbu, 5 % daň z pridanej hodnoty, 1 % mestskú daň a raňajky. V penzióne sme platili platobnou kartou v miestnej mene.

Kde sa v meste Craiova najesť?

V meste sme jedli v dvoch talianskych reštauráciách – Restaurant Il Forno a Pizzeria Trevi a medzi prehliadkami múzeí sme absolvovali coffee break v jednej cukrárni. Návšteva cukrárne nebola ničím výnimočným a preto sa o nej rozpisovať nebudem.

Restaurant Il Forno

Restaurant Il Forno (750 m/10 min. pešo východne od centra) je príjemne vyzerajúcou modernou reštauráciou v centre mesta. Ochutnal som Kuracie závitky so špenátom a syrom feta a opekanými zemiakmi (kuracie prsia, špenát, syr feta, smotana na varenie, cesnak, korenie), ktoré boli chutné. Po anglicky hovoriaca obsluha. Po obede vám odporúčam výborné talianske espresso. Za obed pre 2 osoby sme zaplatili 86 lei/17,79 eur.

Pizzeria Trevi

Pizzeria Trevi (1 km/13 min. pešo východne od centra) je talianskou reštauráciou so všetkým, čo k tomu patrí. Útulná reštaurácia, ktorá sa snaží využiť každý meter štvorcový svojej plochy. Nechýbali stolíky s károvanými obrusmi, servírovacie stolíky, po taliansky hovoriaca obsluha a samozrejme talianska ponuka. Ochutnal som cestoviny Partenopea. Ide o cestoviny s paradajkovou omáčkou na cibuľovom základe s tuniakom a olivami. Chuť zvýrazňujú kapary a porcia je zasnežená strúhaným parmezánom. Cestoviny boli veľmi chutné a sýte. Za večeru pre 2 osoby sme zaplatili 100 lei/20,69 eur.

Po návšteve mesta Craiova ma asi najviac mrzí, že sme nestihli navštíviť múzeum umenia. Takisto by som sa veľmi rád prešiel rozsiahlym parkom, ktorý je situovaný južne od centra. Studené februárové počasie nás namiesto toho „vyhnalo“ do vykúrených múzeí a reštaurácií.

V Drobete sme mali mať najteplejšie počasie z celej našej dovolenky. Malo tu byť neuveriteľných 15! stupňov. Ono vlastne, tých 15 stupňov aj bolo, ale v meste fúkal taký neskutočný vietor, že sme si to „teplé“ počasie až tak veľmi neužili.

Ako sa do Drobeta-Turnu Severin dostať?

Drobeta-Turnu Severin sa nachádza v západnom Valašsku, regióne Olténia, v juhozápadnom Rumunsku, z administratívneho hľadiska v župe Mehedinți.

Autom

Severin leží na križovatke národných ciest DN6 a DN67. Národná cesta DN6, ktorá je zároveň súčasťou európskej cesty E70, vedie na trase Bukurešť – Craiova – Drobeta-Turnu Severin – Timișoara. Národná cesta DN67 vedie z Drobeta-Turnu Severin cez Târgu Jiu do Râmnicu Vâlcea.

Autobusom

Ak budete do Drobety cestovať autobusom, môžete vystúpiť na autobusovej stanici, príp. niektorej z nasledujúcich zastávok:

• Hlavná autobusová stanica (Autogara Transport Public Urban Drobeta SA) – 2 km/23 min. pešo východne od centra mesta a 3 km/38 min. pešo severovýchodne od železničnej stanice.
• Agentia ,,Drobeta,,Dr. Tr. Sev. – pri hlavnej autobusovej stanici,
• Parcare Interex – pri hlavnej autobusovej stanici,
• Generala nr. 2 (označená aj ako B-dul Tudor Vladimirescu) – 2 km/25 min. pešo západne od autobusovej stanice a 280 m/4 min. pešo severne od Vodárenskej veže, teda najbližšie k centru.

Cesta autobusom z Târgu Jiu trvala 2 h 15 min. a cestovný lístok stál 24 lei/4,96 eur/os.

Vlakom

Železničná stanica (Gara Drobeta-Turnu Severin) sa nachádza 1,2 km/15 min. pešo juhozápadne od centra mesta.

Kde získať v Drobeta-Turnu Severin informácie?

Turistické informačné centrum sa nachádza len pár krokov pešo severne od stredovekej pevnosti Severin.

Čo robiť, vidieť a navštíviť v Drobeta-Turnu Severin?

Primárna ponuka Severinu je o čosi bohatšia, možno atraktívnejšia ako v iných mestách Valašska. V meste nájdete Múzeum regiónu Železných vrát, Stredovekú pevnosť Severin či Vodárenskú vežu.

Múzeum regiónu Železných vrát

Múzeum regiónu Železných vrát (Muzeul Regiunii Porților de Fier) vystavuje svoje zbierky vo viacerých budovách – v Multifunkčnom pavilóne, Archeologickom parku a v Múzeu turbín v Gura Văii.

Multifunkčný pavilón

Multifunkčný pavilón (Pavilionul Multifuncțional – Muzeul Regiunii Porților De Fier; 1,3 km/16 min. pešo východne od centra) je hlavnou budovou múzea. Knižný sprievodca nás lákal na akvárium s rybami z Dunaja. Okrem toho na historické, archeologické, či etnografické zbierky. Nakoniec sme nevideli nič z toho. Múzeum momentálne (2020) zatvorili z dôvodu rekonštrukcie a ponúka len 4 krátkodobé výstavy:

• tradičné bývanie v regióne Mehedinți – výber z etnografických zbierok
• obrazy „Dumitru Ghiață” – výber 46 obrazov zo zbierok Múzea umenia,
• rímska kuchyňa – výber z historických a archeologických zbierok,
• vypchaté vtáky – výber z prírodovedných zbierok.

Vstupenka stála 4 lei/0,83 eur/os.

Archeologický park

Archeologický park (Parcul Arheologic – Muzeul Regiunii Porților De Fier) sa nachádza priamo pri Multifunkčnom pavilóne. V parku sa našli pozostatky rímskeho tábora, Trajánovho mosta, rímskeho amfiteátra, rímskych kúpeľov a stredovekého kostola.

Pevnosť bola prvým kamenným táborom Rimanov na území Dácie a slúžila na obranu Trajánovho mosta. Apollodor z Damašku nechal už v rokoch 102-105 n. l. na príkaz cisára Trajána postaviť most ponad Dunaj. Bol to najväčší most v staroveku, ktorý spájal dve rímske provincie – Dáciu (na sever od Dunaja) a Moéziu (na juh od Dunaja). Z mosta sa zachovali dve základné úpätia, jedno na rumunskej a jedno na srbskej strane.

Zvyšok mosta je navždy pochovaný na dne Dunaja, ktorý sa v týchto miestach dvihol o 8-10 m po vybudovaní vodnej elektrárne. Most dokonca zobrazili aj na Trajánovom stĺpe v Ríme. Amfiteáter slúžil na výcvik rímskych legionárov. Po výcviku sa mohli zotaviť v neďalekých kúpeľoch. Park si prechádzate sami. V celom areáli sú informačné tabule v rumunčine a angličtine. Vstupenka stála 10 lei/2,07 eur/os.

Múzeum turbín v Gura Văii

Múzeum turbín v Gura Văii (Muzeul Turbinelor de la Gura Văii; 12 km/14 min. autom severozápadne od centra mesta) sa nachádza v priestoroch vodnej elektrárne Železné vráta v dedinke Gura Văii, ktorú spravuje Drobeta. Okrem stálej historickej a archeologickej expozície ponúka návštevníkom aj dočasné výstavy z etnografických, prírodovedných zbierok a turbínovú halu. Prehliadku múzea sme vďaka absentujúcemu autobusu z Târgu Jiu a recenziám na internete nakoniec vynechali a uprednostnili atraktivity v meste. Vstupenka stála 10 lei/2,07 eur/os.

Plavba v týchto miestach Dunaja bola stále nebezpečná. Rieka sa tu vinula tiesňavou pomedzi skaliská a navyše sa v nej tvorili víry. V druhej polovici 20. storočia sa Rumunsko dohodlo s Juhosláviou (dnešné Srbsko) o vybudovaní vodnej elektrárne. Tá vznikla v rokoch 1960-1972 a je najväčšou priehradnou vodnou elektrárňou na Dunaji a jednou z najväčších v Európe. Jej vybudovanie spôsobilo, že hladina rieky sa zdvihla o 33 m, zaplavila 10 miest na rumunskom a 7 miest na srbskom pobreží, medzi inými historickú časť mesta Orșova a turecký ostrov Ada Kaleh.

Stredoveká pevnosť Severin

Stredoveká pevnosť Severin (Cetatea Medievală a Severinului; 650 m/8 min. pešo južne od centra) je pravdepodobne prvou kamennou pevnosťou v Rumunsku. Pevnosť nechal postaviť uhorský kráľ Ladislav I. na konci 11. stor. na obranu v prípade útokov Kumánov a Pečenehov. Neskôr chránila pred tureckou inváziou. Turci po dobytí pevnosti nariadili jej demoláciu. V súčasnosti sa môžete zdarma prejsť po jej hradbách.  

Vodárenská veža

Vodárenskú vežu (Castelul de Apă; 350 m/5 min. pešo severne od centra) postavili v roku 1910. Jej hlavnou funkciou bolo zásobovať Severin vodou. Slávnostne ju otvorili o štyri roky neskôr a až do roku 1980 plnila svoje poslanie. Počas 1. svet. vojny slúžila ako pozorovateľňa pre nemeckých vojakov. Veža je vysoká 27 m.

Z veže je výhľad na pravidelnú sieť ulíc mesta, Dunaj i protiľahlé Srbsko. Na každom podlaží veže je iná krátkodobá výstava – na najvyššom podlaží to bola výstava historických fotografií starej Drobety, o poschodie nižšie výstava, ktorú venovali srbskému mestu Negotin, na ďalšom podlaží pravdepodobne práce žiakov základnej umeleckej školy a na prízemí, kde je pokladňa a predajňa suvenírov to ešte bola výstava fotografií regionálnych kostolov a kláštorov. Vstupenka stála je 10 lei/2,07 eur/os.

Kde sa ubytovať v Drobeta-Turnu Severin?

Mon Cheri sa nachádza 900 m/11 min. pešo severozápadne od centra mesta; 1,3 km/17 min. pešo severne od železničnej stanice a 2,2 km/30 min. pešo západne od autobusovej stanice.

Ubytovali nás v 2-lôžkovej izbe s balkónom a výhľadom na hlavnú cestu so súkromnou kúpeľňou so sprchovacím kútom. Izbu zariadili starším nábytkom, ale tuším som práve tu spal na najlepšom matraci v celom Valašsku. Izba trochu páchla, ale na to sme si v Rumunsku už zvykli. Dobre po anglicky hovoriaca recepčná, ale len po rumunsky hovoriaca čašníčka. V penzióne servírujú aj raňajky. Nie sú súčasťou ceny ubytovania. Čašníčka, ktorá bola asi zároveň aj kuchárkou, nám pripravila chutnú omeletu.

Za jednu 2-lôžkovú izbu na 1 noc pre 2 osoby sme zaplatili 130 lei/26,88 eur. Cena zahŕňa izbu, 5 % daň z pridanej hodnoty, 1 % mestskú daň. V penzióne môžete platiť kartou. Cena nezahŕňa raňajky. Za raňajky pre 2 osoby sme zaplatili 29 ron/6 eur. Nemusíte si rezervovať miesto na bezplatnom verejnom parkovisku, ktorá je k dispozícii na mieste. Bezplatné Wi-Fi pripojenie na internet je v celom penzióne.

Kde sa najesť v Drobeta-Turnu Severin?

V meste sme vyskúšali 2 reštaurácie a jednu kaviareň.

Restaurant & Lounge 16,50

Restaurant & Lounge 16,50 (400 m/5 min. pešo západne od centra) je luxusne vyzerajúcou reštauráciou takmer v centre mesta. Boli sme asi prví hostia, ktorí prišli na večeru v ten deň. V niektorých miestnostiach ani nebolo rozsvietené. V jednej bolo, ale tam sedeli čašníci a fajčili (zas ten cigaretový dym). Dym bolo trochu cítiť aj v miestnosti, kde sme mali jesť. Nenechali sme sa odradiť, aj keď som myslel, že sa dvihneme a pôjdeme niekam inam. Nakoniec to bola reštaurácia, kde sme sa najlepšie najedli. Opäť len po rumunsky hovoriaca obsluha, ale na to sme si už zvykli tiež. Ochutnal som špecialitu podniku, Kurací wok (kuracie prsia, paprika, baklažán, tekvica, cesnak, sladká čili omáčka, ryža basmati).

Ostalo nám miesto aj na dezert. Veľmi sme sa potešili, keď sme v jedálnom lístku videli tradičný rumunský dezert Papanași (niečo ako naše šišky), ktoré tu obyčajne servírujú so sladkou smotanou a čučoriedkami. Po večeri sme sa išli prejsť ku Dunaju. Nábrežie, žiaľ, neupravili podobne ako v iných mestách Rumunska. Mesto a jeho pamätihodnosti sú ale v noci vysvietené pekne. Za večeru pre 2 osoby sme zaplatili 150 lei/31,02 eur.

Reštaurácia Rustic

Reštaurácia, v ktorej sme sa chceli najesť nasledujúci deň na obed, bola zatvorená. Vybrali sme sa preto do najbližšej reštaurácie (Rustic; 260 m/3 min. pešo juhozápadne od centra) v okolí. Na základe osobnej skúsenosti môžem zhodnotiť, že reštaurácia je verná svojmu menu. Po vstupe som mal pocit, že som sa presunul v čase o niekoľko desaťročí naspäť. Veľké neumyté okná (tie okná asi aj umyli, len to sklo už mohlo byť také staré, že cezeň nebolo poriadne vidno), všade plno veľkých zelených zaprášených rastlín, dlhé drevené stoly, nad stolmi kvázi drevené striešky s ľudovými motívmi, staršia, po rumunsky hovoriaca pani čašníčka a cena obeda pre 2 osoby nižšia ako za dve kávy inde v meste.

Ochutnali sme denné menu: Zeleninovú polievku a vývar (to bola tá istá zeleninová polievka, len do nej nakrájali kuracie mäso). Hlavným chodom boli plátok bravčového a plátok kuracieho mäsa. Olej, na ktorom mäso pripravovali, si hádam pamätal pád socializmu. Ako prílohu sme si mohli vybrať zemiaky na akýkoľvek spôsob. Som rád, že nám vybrali hranolčeky. Po hlavnom chode samozrejme nemôže chýbať dezert. Nasledovali tak obľúbené palacinky. Kvôli jedlu by som sa už asi do reštaurácie nevrátil, ale kvôli tomu zážitku, alebo možno ešte lepšie povedané pocitu, určite áno. Za obed pre 2 osoby sme zaplatili 40 lei/8,27 eur.

Kaviareň Ada Kaleh

Turecky pôsobiaca kaviareň Cafeneaua Ada Kaleh sa nachádza priamo v centre mesta. Objednali sme si originálnu tureckú kávu (nie zalievanú, ale pripravovanú v džezve a piesku!) s baklavou. Trošku ma mrzelo, že nebyť toho unikátneho prostredia, nadobudol by som pocit, že som zas len v akejkoľvek inej kaviarni v Rumunsku. Za účet pre 2 osoby sme zaplatili 42 lei/8,69 eur.

Nemôžem povedať, že by Drobeta-Turnu Severin nesplnila moje očakávania. Asi som si ju len pred svojím príchodom veľmi idealizoval. Som presvedčený, že cez leto, keď je pekne, má mesto úplne inú atmosféru. Nechcem preháňať, možno prímorskú, ale určite sú všade terasy a plno ľudí a teplo a voňavo. Ale to už zas idealizujem.

Ceny som prepočítal podľa aktuálneho kurzu Národnej banky Slovenska platného k 24. 3. 2020 (1 eur = 4,8357 lei).

Za uvedenie a pozitívne hodnotenie služieb podnikov, inštitúcií a organizácií cestovného ruchu som nedostal nič zdarma.

Ako cestovanie v Rumunsku začalo …

Ráno sme vstali, dali si raňajky v hotelovej reštaurácii, pobalili si všetky veci a ponáhľali sa na autobusovú stanicu. Po príchode na stanicu sme pozreli na tabuľu odchodov a postavili sa na správne nástupisko. Teraz nám už ostávalo len čakať. Čakáme päť minút, pätnásť, polhodinu, ale autobus nikde. Čakali sme naň aspoň hodinu, lebo takéto cestovanie v Rumunsku je bežné.

Keď ale ani po hodine autobus neprišiel, rozhodol som sa, že sa naň radšej opýtam na autobusovej stanici. Vedeli sme, že ďalší autobus nám ide až poobede o pol tretej. Podídem k okienku a pani sa pýtam, či hovorí po anglicky. Suverénne mi odpovedala nie. Hovorím si, nevadí, nenechám sa odradiť. Ešte pred tým som si nechal na mobile načítať stránku s cestovnými poriadkami rumunských autobusov, ktorú som jej ukázal. Keď nebudú rozumieť mne, budú rozumieť môjmu mobilu.

…ako cestovanie v Rumunsku pokračovalo …

Pani pozrela na môj mobil, rukou naznačila „nie“ a začala na lístok písať čas. Na lístku bolo napísané to, čoho som sa najviac obával. 14.30. Bol to čas odchodu ďalšieho autobusu žiadaným smerom, o ktorom sme vedeli. Pani pozrela na muža, ktorý sedel vedľa nej, po rumunsky sa spýtala pravdepodobne na to, či išiel ten autobus alebo nie. Pán vyskočil zo stoličky, akoby som niečo vyviedol. Na chvíľu som sa zľakol. 😀

Otvoril asi troje dvere na chodbe a každého sa niečo po rumunsky pýtal. Z posledných tretích dverí vyšla mladá dievčina, ktorá údajne hovorí po anglicky. A tak som jej zopakoval môj problém. Hovorím jej tiež, že ten autobus je uvedený aj na tabuli odchodov. Povedala mi, že tento autobus nepôjde, lebo je to iná … Nevedela mi povedať, čo. Hovorím: „Iná spoločnosť?“ A ona na to, „áno“. Na mobile mi ukázala na ďalší autobus o niekoľko hodín neskôr. Zas ten poobedný o 14.30 h.

Neostávalo mi nič iné, len akceptovať, čo mi povedali a vrátiť sa naspäť na nástupište. A tak som po rumunsky poďakoval (aspoň to som sa naučil) a odišiel preč.

Čo teraz?

Iný priamy autobus nejde. Zo stanice odchádza takmer každú polhodinu autobus do dediny v polovici cesty. Tak sa pozriem na odchody autobusov odtiaľ. Ani odtiaľ ale žiadny ďalší autobus do Drobety nejde. Až ten, ktorý odchádza o pol tretej z Târgu Jiu. Keby sme vedeli, že nám nepôjde tento autobus, spali by sme dlhšie, odubytovali by sme sa neskôr, možno si zašli do múzea, prípadne aj na obed a pokojne prišli poobede na stanicu. Vrátiť sa do mesta (navyše s ruksakmi) sa nám už nechcelo, múzeum by sme už aj tak nestihli, hladní sme neboli.

Tak som si otvoril mapy a hľadal najbližšiu kaviareň v okolí, v ktorej by sme „zabili“ čas, kým príde náš autobus. Super! Len štyri minúty od stanice jedna je. Tak sme si v nej posedeli, vrátili sa naspäť na stanicu a dúfali, že tento autobus (mimochodom posledný v ten deň) nás nesklame a pôjde.

Autobus nakoniec prišiel a dokonca pol hodiny pred svojím plánovaným odchodom. My sme sa do Drobety dostali, ale múzeá, ktoré sme plánovali navštíviť v tento deň, sme navštívili až ten nasledujúci. Riečnu elektráreň sme už navštíviť nestihli. V recenziách som sa ale dočítal, že by sme tú turbínovú halu možno aj tak nevideli (dôvodom je vraj nefungujúci výťah). Tak mám aspoň dôvod vrátiť sa do oblasti opäť.

Cestovanie v Rumunsku – 3 rady na záver:

1. Na autobus si vždy počkajte trochu dlhšie, lebo môže prísť aj po hodine.
2. Buďte vďační za to, ako situácie dopadnú. Možno je to najlepšia možnosť.
3. Užívajte si, kde ste, pohotovo reagujte a nestresujte sa.

How to get to Târgu Jiu?

Târgu Jiu is located in western Wallachia, the Oltenia region, in southwestern Romania.

By car

The city is crossed by 2 national roads (DN) – DN66, which is part of the European road E79 and DN67. The European road E79 starts in Hungary and ends in Greece. In Romania it passes through the cities of Oradea – Deva – Târgu Jiu – Craiova – Calafat. National road DN67 runs on the route Drobeta-Turnu Severin – Târgu Jiu – Râmnicu Valcea.

By bus

The bus station (Autogara Expres Transport SA) is located 300 m / 3 minutes walk south of the railway station and 1.5 km / 20 minutes walk southeast of the city center. Traveling by bus from Deva took 3 hours and 13 minutes. The ticket cost 37 RON / 7.64 EUR / person.

By train

You will find the train station (Gara Târgu Jiu) 300 m / 3 minutes walk north of the bus station and 1.2 km / 15 minutes walk southeast of the city center.

Where to get information in Târgu Jiu?

The Tourist Information Center (Info Târgu Jiu; 150 m / 2 minutes walk west of the city center) is located next to the Gorj County Council (Consiliul Județean Gorj) in a side street.

What to do, see and visit in Târgu Jiu?

Târgu Jiu is known for its sculptural ensemble by Constantin Brâncuși. In addition, there are the County Museum and Art Gallery, as in other cities not only in Romania, too.

Sculptural Ensemble of Constantin Brâncuși at Târgu Jiu

Sculptural Ensemble of Constantin Brâncuși at Târgu Jiu (Ansamblul sculptural Constantin Brâncuși de la Târgu-Jiu) or the Monumental Ensemble “The Path of Heroes” from Târgu Jiu is a homage to Romanian World War I soldiers who fell on the Jiu river bank in 1916. Their author, Constantin Brâncuși, created 4 statues – Endless Column, Gate of Kisses, Alley of Chairs, and Table of Silence, which are arranged on a nearly 1.5 km long west-east axis. By the way, the ensemble is inscribed on the Tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage.

Who was Constantin Brâncuși?

Constantin Brâncuși (1876-1957) was a Romanian sculptor of abstract expressionism, painter and photographer. He is one of the greatest sculptors of the 20th century. In his works he combined Romanian folk art and Parisian avant-garde. He worked in the workshop of the prominent French sculptor Auguste Rodin. In the period of socialist realism, his works were signed as a decadent bourgeoisie and threatened with extinction. Only a few decades later the author was understood. His works can be found in art museums in Bucharest, New York or Philadelphia. He was buried at the Montparnasse Cemetery in Paris. The name Constantin Brâncuși bear several streets across Romania and Moldova. The sculptor and his works appeared on postage stamps, banknotes and commemorative coins.

Table of Silence

You would have been able to see from the Table of Silence to the Endless Column if the Church of St. Peter and Paul had it not been for in the way. All the works were unveiled on October 27, 1938. They are the only works of the author that you can admire in situ. The artist was originally supposed to create 12 sculptures, but before his death, he completed only four.

The Endless Column

The Endless Column (Coloana Infinitului) has a height of 29.35 m, consisting of 16 (respectively 15 and one half module at the bottom and one half module at the top) of the overlapping octahedra modules. The Endless Column represents an endless sacrifice of Romanian soldiers. The statue is a stylization of burial columns (according to another version of wooden columns of peasant verandas), typical for southern Romania.

I read somewhere that if you stand close to the column and turn your head upwards, it will really appear endless. So I wanted to try it. (Un)luckily, Brâncuși‚s works are a national heritage for the Romanians and are guarded by police 24 hours a day.

The Gate of Kisses

The Gate of Kisses (Poarta sărutului) is a triumphal arch, located at the beginning of the city park. The gate has a special meaning for Romanians. It is an entry into life, but also an exit from it. It is therefore a transition to another life. The two halves of the circle on each side of the columns are a kiss symbol.

The Alley of chairs

The Alley of chairs (Aleea scaunelor) consists of 30 stone chairs arranged in triples and 2 stone benches on both sides of the pavement. The sculpture connects the Table of Silence with the Gate of Kisses.

The Table of Silence

At the opposite end of the city park as the Gate of Kisses stands The Table of Silence (Masa tăcerii). It represents the moment before the battle which the attendees will participate in. Time is a circular arrangement of 12 hourglass chairs.

Another interpretation says that the Table of Silence is a symbol of the Last Supper. The twelve chairs are for the 12 apostles and the table itself represents Jesus Christ.

Gorj County Museum Alexander Ștefulescu

Gorj County Museum Alexander Ștefulescu (Muzeul Județean Gorj „Alexandru Ștefulescu“) saves several collections and makes it available to visitors in several museums and memorial houses across the county. It exhibits historical and archaeological collections at the Museum of History and Archaeology Alexander Ștefulescu (Muzeul de istorie și arheologie Alexandru Ștefulescu). The art collections can be found in the Art Gallery (Muzeul de Artă), which focuses on the fine art of Romanian artists from the 17th century to the present. Meet Brâncuși’s personality here with a few pictures of his life.

Where to stay in Târgu Jiu?

Of all accommodation facilities in Oltenia we were accommodated in, I rate the Palace Hotel (or also SC Lexi Star SRL Hotel; 700 m / 9 minutes walk west of the bus and railway station and 1.2 km / 16 minutes walk south of the city center) as the best. English speaking receptionist. Spacious, elegantly furnished double room with city view with private bathroom with shower. For breakfast, they will prepare eggs in any way and you can also choose from the buffet.

In the city they used to being cozy at warm. They heated our room as if it was freezing outside. We managed to lower the heating a little, but not shut it down completely. With 2 hours later the room was still so warm that there was nothing left to do but to sleep in the middle of February with the window open. You don’t have to worry, we certainly didn’t freeze. For a moment I felt like it was summer outside.

Free private parking is possible on site. Reservation is needed. Wi-Fi is available in all areas and is free of charge. For one double room for 1 night for 2 people we paid 140 RON / 28,90 EUR. The price includes room, value added tax, city tax and breakfast for 2 persons. You can only pay cash in local currency at the hotel.

Where to eat in Târgu Jiu?

We ate in the city in two traditional Romanian restaurants – Pensiunea Antique and Madam.

Pensiunea Antique

Pensiunea Antique, a traditional Romanian restaurant, is located in the city center opposite the Gate of Kisses. We arrived at the restaurant at lunchtime when they were serving the daily menu. The menu consisted of soup, main course, salad, dessert and drink. We had 2 meals to choose from.

The staff did not speak English, so we had to translate the food names quickly through google to have at least an idea of what we were ordering. But the waiter arrived fast enough, so we didn’t manage to translate everything. Finally, we chose both options, with the fact that we will be surprised. I am fascinated by the fact that even if the staff does not speak English or understands just a little bit you if you are trying to speak Romanian, „Țuică“ (traditional Romanian plum distillate, usually 40-55%) is understood by everyone. 🙂

We tasted Broth with meatballs (liver dumplings?) and Tripe soup. Menu number 1 was Roast pork chop with green pepper sauce and mashed potatoes with the cabbage salad. They served Tiramisu for dessert. Menu number 2 was Grilled chicken with rice and vegetables. In addition, mixed vegetable salad and they served Pancakes with homemade jam for dessert.

You can choose a drink of your choice – mineral water or draft beer to the daily menu. After lunch I ordered coffee, but since the waiter didn’t understand us very much, he brought us two coffees. For the lunch we paid 87 RON / 17,96 EUR. Well, let me tell you, we were literally „sated„. All calories we burned while walking through the city.

Madam

For dinner I chose Madam restaurant, which is also in the city center. Very nicely furnished and modern restaurant with English speaking service. The space is divided by large wine racks, on the walls are photographs with works by Brâncuși. I tasted Baked trout with salt milk rice. For the dinner for 2 people we paid 97,50 RON / 20,13 EUR.

Although we didn’t spend a lot of time in the city, I really liked it here. I dare say that city is such a hidden jewel of the Oltenia region. If I had to choose even one city in western Wallachia to visit again, it would definitely be Târgu Jiu.

Čo robiť, vidieť a navštíviť v Târgu Jiu?

Târgu Jiu je známe vďaka súboru sôch Constantina Brâncușiho. Okrem toho je to opäť Župné múzeum a Galéria umenia podobne ako v iných mestách nielen Rumunska.

Sochársky súbor Constantina Brâncușiho z Târgu Jiu

Sochársky súbor Constantina Brâncușiho z Târgu Jiu (Ansamblul sculptural Constantin Brâncuși de la Târgu-Jiu) alebo tiež Monumentálny súbor „Cesta hrdinov“ z Târgu Jiu je súbor sôch vzdávajúcich hold rumunským vojakom 1. svetovej vojny, ktorí padli v roku 1916 na brehu rieky Jiu. Ich autor, Constantin Brâncuși, vytvoril 4 súsošia – Nekonečný stĺp, Bránu bozkov, Aleju stoličiek a Stôl mlčania, ktoré usporiadal na jednej osi smerujúcej zo západu na východ dlhej takmer 1,5 km. Súbor je mimochodom adeptom na prestížny Zoznam svetového dedičstva UNESCO.

Kto bol Constantin Brâncuși?

Constantin Brâncuși (čítajte Konstantín Brynkuši; 1876-1957) bol rumunským sochárom abstraktného expresionizmu, maliarom a fotografom. Považujú ho za jedného z najväčších sochárov 20. storočia. Vo svojich dielach kombinoval rumunskú ľudovú tvorbu a parížsku avantgardu. Odbornú prax vykonával v dielni významného francúzskeho sochára Auguste Rodina. V období socialistického realizmu jeho diela označili za dekadentnú buržoáziu a hrozil im zánik. Až o niekoľko dekád neskôr bol autor pochopený. Jeho diela nájdeme v múzeách umenia v Bukurešti, New Yorku, či Filadelfii. Pochovali ho na cintoríne Montparnasse v Paríži. Meno Constantin Brâncuși nesú viaceré ulice naprieč Rumunskom a Moldavskom. Sochár a jeho diela sa objavili na poštových známkach, bankovkách a pamätných minciach. 

Stôl mlčania

Od Stola mlčania by ste pokojne dovideli až na Nekonečný stĺp, keby vám vo výhľade nebránil kostol sv. Petra a Pavla. Všetky diela slávnostne odhalili 27. októbra 1938. Sú to jediné diela autora, ktoré môžete obdivovať in situ. Umelec mal pôvodne vytvoriť 12 sochárskych diel, pred svojou smrťou však dokončil len tieto štyri.

Nekonečný stĺp

Nekonečný stĺp (Coloana Infinitului) má výšku 29,35 m, pozostáva zo 16 (resp. 15 a jedného polovičného modulu na spodku a jedného polovičného modulu na vrchu) prekrývajúcich sa oktaédrových (to je slovo!, znamená to pravidelný osemsten) modulov. Nekonečný stĺp predstavuje nekonečnú obetu rumunských vojakov. Socha je štylizáciou pohrebných stĺpov (podľa inej verzie drevených stĺpov sedliackych veránd), typických pre južné Rumunsko.

Niekde som čítal, že ak sa postavíte tesne ku stĺpu a hlavu otočíte smerom hore, naozaj sa vám bude javiť ako nekonečný. A tak som to chcel vyskúšať aj ja. Na(ne)šťastie, Brâncușiho diela sú pre Rumunov národným dedičstvom, ktoré policajti strážia 24 h denne.

Brána bozkov

Víťazný oblúk Brána bozkov (Poarta sărutului) sa nachádza na začiatku mestského parku. Brána má pre Rumunov osobitý význam. Je vstupom do života, ale aj východom z neho. Je teda prechodom do iného života. Dve polovice kruhu na každej strane stĺpov sú symbolom bozku.

Aleja stoličiek

Aleja stoličiek (Aleea scaunelor) pozostáva z 30 kamenných stoličiek usporiadaných po trojiciach a 2 kamenných lavičiek po obidvoch stranách chodníka. Súsošie spája Bránu bozkov so Stolom mlčania.

Stôl mlčania

Stôl mlčania (Masa tăcerii) stojí na opačnom konci mestského parku ako Brána bozkov. Predstavuje moment pred bitkou, na ktorej sa majú zúčastniť prísediaci. Čas predstavuje kruhové usporiadanie 12 stoličiek, ktoré majú tvar presýpacích hodín.

Ďalšia interpretácia hovorí, že Stôl mlčania je symbolom poslednej večere. Dvanásť stoličiek je určených pre 12 apoštolov a samotný stôl predstavuje Ježiša Krista.

Múzeum župy Gorj

Múzeum župy Gorj (Muzeul Județean Gorj „Alexandru Ștefulescu”) uchováva vo svojom fonde viaceré zbierky, ktoré návštevníkom sprístupňuje v niekoľkých múzeách a pamätných domoch naprieč župou. Historické a archeologické zbierky vystavuje v Múzeu histórie a archeológie Alexandra Ștefulescu (Muzeul de istorie și arheologie Alexandru Ștefulescu). Umelecké zbierky nájdete v Galérii umenia (Muzeul de Artă), ktorá sa zameriava na výtvarné umenie rumunských umelcov od 17. storočia po súčasnosť. Zoznámite sa tu tiež s osobnosťou Brâncușiho vďaka niekoľkým fotografiám z jeho života.

Kde sa v Târgu Jiu ubytovať?

Hotel Palace (alebo tiež Hotel SC Lexi Star SRL; 700 m/9 min. pešo západne od autobusovej a železničnej stanice a 1,2 km/16 min. pešo južne od centra mesta) hodnotím zo všetkých ubytovacích zariadení vo Valašsku, v ktorých sme boli ubytovaní, ako ten najlepší. Anglicky hovoriaca recepčná. Priestranná, vkusne zariadená 2-lôžková izba s výhľadom na mesto so súkromnou kúpeľňou so sprchovacím kútom. Na raňajky vám pripravia vajíčka na akýkoľvek spôsob a okrem toho si môžete vybrať z ponukových stolov.  

V meste sú asi zvyknutí na teplo. Preto aj našu izbu vykúrili, akoby von udreli mrazy. Kúrenie sa nám podarilo trochu stíšiť, ale nie celkom vypnúť. V izbe bolo napriek tomu tak teplo, že nám neostávalo nič iné, len spať uprostred februára pri otvorenom okne. Nemusíte sa obávať, určite sme nemrzli. Na chvíľu som mal pocit, že je leto.

Je potrebné rezervovať si miesto na bezplatnom súkromnom parkovisku, ktoré je k dispozícii na mieste. Bezplatné Wi-Fi pripojenie na internet je k dispozícii v celom hoteli. Za jednu 2-lôžkovú izbu na 1 noc pre 2 osoby sme zaplatili 140 lei/28,90 eur. Cena zahŕňa izbu, daň z pridanej hodnoty, mestskú daň a raňajky pre 2 osoby. V hoteli môžete platiť len v hotovosti v miestnej mene.

Kde sa v Târgu Jiu najesť?

V meste sme vyskúšali dve tradičné rumunské reštaurácie – Pensiunea Antique a Madam.

Pensiunea Antique

Tradičná rumunská reštaurácia Pensiunea Antique sa nachádza v centre mesta oproti Bráne bozkov. Do reštaurácie sme prišli v čase obeda, keď práve podávali denné menu. Menu pozostávalo z polievky, hlavného jedla, šalátu, dezertu a nápoja. Na výber sme mali z 2 jedál.

Obsluha nehovorila po anglicky, takže sme si názvy jedál museli rýchlo preložiť cez google, aby sme mali aspoň akú-takú predstavu, čo si objednávame. Čašník ale prišiel dosť rýchlo, takže sme si všetko nestihli preložiť. Nakoniec sme si vybrali obidva varianty s tým, že sa necháme prekvapiť. Fascinuje ma, že aj keď obsluha nehovorí po anglicky a ledva vám rozumie, ak sa snažíte hovoriť po rumunsky, výrazu „Țuică“ (tradičný rumunský destilát zo sliviek, zvyčajne 40-55 %) rozumejú hádam všetci.

Ochutnali sme Vývar s mäsovými guľkami (pečeňové halušky?) a Držkovú polievku. Menu číslo 1 bola Pečená bravčová kotleta s omáčkou zo zeleného korenia a zemiakovou kašou. K tomu Kapustový šalát. Ako dezert servírovali Tiramisu. Menu číslo 2 bolo Grilované kuracie mäso s ryžou a zeleninou. K tomu Miešaný zeleninový šalát a ako dezert podávali Palacinky s domácou marmeládou.

Ku dennému menu si môžete zvoliť nápoj podľa vášho výberu – minerálnu vodu alebo čapované pivo. Po obede som si objednal kávu, ale keďže čašník nám veľmi nerozumel, priniesol nám kávy dve. Za celý obed sme zaplatili 87 lei/17,96 eur. No, poviem vám, že z reštaurácie sme odchádzali doslova „prežratí“. Keďže na programe sme mali len prechádzku mestom, všetky nabraté kalórie sme mali kde spáliť. 😉

Madam

Na večeru som vybral reštauráciu Madam, ktorá sa nachádza takisto v centre mesta. Veľmi pekne zariadená a moderná reštaurácia s anglicky hovoriacou obsluhou. Priestor predeľujú veľké regály s vínami, na stenách sú fotografie s dielami Brâncușiho. Ochutnal som Pečeného pstruha s mliečnou ryžou (na slano). Za večeru pre 2 osoby sme zaplatili 97,50 lei/20,13 eur.

Napriek tomu, že sme v meste nestrávili veľa času, veľmi sa mi tu páčilo. Dovolím si tvrdiť, že je to taký skrytý klenot Olténie. Ak by som si mal vybrať čo i len jedno mesto západného Valašska, ktoré by som chcel navštíviť opäť, bolo by to Târgu Jiu.

Ceny boli prepočítané podľa aktuálneho kurzu Národnej banky Slovenska platného k 19. 3. 2020 (1 eur = 4,8445 lei).

Za uvedenie a pozitívne hodnotenie služieb podnikov, inštitúcií a organizácií cestovného ruchu som nedostal nič zdarma.
